Puakea embraces everything magical that is Kauai, with its natural beauty, casual charm and friendly people. Set at the base of the towering Mount Ha'upu, Puakea plays through deep ravines, crosses mountain fed streams, reveals views of the Pacific Ocean, and treats golfers to stunning island beauty.
Puakea Golf Course has a long and interesting history. Initial construction of the facility was halted due in part to unpredictable forces of nature when Hurricane Iniki swept the island in 1992 and for nearly seven years, it was Kauai's only 10-hole golf course. With the transition of new ownership in July of 2003, the full 18 holes were finally completed and thus began the journey of Puakea.

Crafted by Robin Nelson, Hawaii's most prolific golf course architect, Puakea is 7000 yards of exhilarating golf. Nelson's masterful design clearly conveys the routes golfers should take for textbook pars. However, those more daring will be tempted with hints at ways to achieve glorious birdies and a truly memorable round of golf.

Puakea was named Hawaii's "Best New Course" by TravelGolf.com, 4th Best Course in Hawaii according to Hawaii Magazine and 13th Best Course in State by Golfweek Magazine in 2009. The course is a cornucopia of island flora and fauna, giving a sense that Puakea is in complete harmony with nature. AOL founder Steve Case is one of Puakea's owners, and its proximity to the airport and downtown Lihue make the course as conveniently located as it is breathtakingly beautiful.

Puakea's logo - a simply stylized flower - takes the word "puakea," meaning "blossom," and transforms it into a work of art. The large petals retain the elegant, tropical feel that embodies the island of Kauai, and the stigma in the center cleverly doubles as a pin flag.

Puakea has something for everyone with a state-of-the-art practice facility with more than 40 hitting bays and grass tees. The course also offers a complete schedule of clinics, private and group lessons.
